Designing Findable Technical Content
I researched, structured, and published an SEO-informed iFixit device page for the J.H. Emerson CoughAssist CM-3000 and CM-3200. The project focused on helping users find reliable medical-device information, distinguish between similar models, understand technical specifications, and access supporting manuals through a clear and trustworthy content structure.

Overview
Searching for information about older medical equipment can be difficult. Relevant details are often scattered across manuals, supplier websites, service documents, and technical databases. Users may not know which sources are credible or which model information applies to their device.
For this project, I created and optimized an iFixit device page for the J.H. Emerson CoughAssist CM-3000 and CM-3200. The page brought together background information, model-identification guidance, technical specifications, operating conditions, and supporting resources in one structured location.
I approached SEO as a user-experience problem. The central challenge was to help users:
discover the page through relevant searches;
quickly confirm that they had found the correct device;
understand complex technical information;
evaluate whether the information was trustworthy;
and locate additional manuals or official resources.
The project combined research, source evaluation, keyword analysis, information architecture and UX writing.
The problem
Users searching for information about older medical equipment often encounter fragmented, outdated, or highly technical resources.
The J.H. Emerson CoughAssist CM-3000 and CM-3200 presented several content challenges:
limited information was available outside service manuals and supplier pages;
device names and model numbers varied across sources;
the adult and pediatric models needed to be clearly distinguished;
technical specifications were difficult to scan;
and users needed credible references because the topic involved medical equipment.
A page could contain technically correct information and still provide a poor experience if users could not find it, understand it, or verify it.
The UX challenge was therefore to create a page that balanced:
search visibility;
technical accuracy;
readable content;
model identification;
credibility;
and clear pathways to additional information.
Because the page concerned medical equipment, trust and source quality were especially important. The final iFixit page includes a disclaimer clarifying that neither iFixit nor the repair information is affiliated with the manufacturer.
Research and discovery
I began by researching how users might search for the device and what information they would need after arriving on the page.

Keyword and search-language research
I explored variations of:
J.H. Emerson CoughAssist;
CM-3000;
CM-3200;
mechanical insufflation-exsufflation;
respiratory equipment;
user manual;
service guide;
technical specifications;
and model identification.
I used alternative search terms, Boolean operators such as AND, OR, and NOT, database filters, and related terminology to expand the search.
Source evaluation
I reviewed:
manufacturer-related information;
service manuals;
biomedical resources;
supplier documentation;
device manuals;
and supporting technical references.
I assessed each source by reviewing:
authorship;
publication date;
relevance;
citations;
institutional credibility;
consistency across sources;
and whether the claims could be independently verified.
User-needs analysis
I organized the page around likely user questions:
What is this device?
What does it do?
Do I have the CM-3000 or CM-3200?
Where is the model number?
What are the dimensions, power requirements, and operating limits?
Where can I find manuals and additional support?
Content-gap analysis
I found that much of the available material was written for technicians or suppliers rather than everyday users. This created an opportunity to translate the content into a more understandable and navigable format.
The solution
I created a structured iFixit device page that organized background information, model identification, technical specifications, and supporting resources into clear sections. The content used concise UX writing, consistent terminology, credible sources, and scannable headings to help users quickly find and understand the information they needed.
Reflection
This project taught me that SEO is not only about visibility; it is also about helping people find, understand, and trust information. I learned how clear structure, credible sources, and consistent terminology can make complex technical content more usable.
